A useful reminder

Just when your humble blogger was starting to think that this whole Osborne business was starting to look like the bad old Tories of old, and you know, perhaps NuLab aren't really that bad after all, have I been unfair to them, and so on, just when this is going round my mind comes along this proposal for buyers of alcohol in supermarket to face a, quote, walk of shame to a separate checkout. And I am reminded of what nannying, bullying pricks they are.

I wonder what a certain cigar chomping grandmother of yesteryear, quoting Balzac and doing air guitar to Pink Floyd would have made of it all? Think ""nannying" may be the wrong word?

It ain't what you do, it's the way that you do it....

The best way to manage this system could be that used in some provinces of Canada; an off-licence adjoining the supermarket with separate staff and minimal queues.
What we would almost certainly get, however, would be some bastard arrangement within the store; a nanny state without the redeeming feature of efficiency. Welcome to 21st century Britain!

Dno - ah, she was never a 'nanny'.

Polly, I love the blog, and the fabulous picture in your Profile! Nice to have a bit of class round these parts.
